An Afternoon of Poetry with Ed Davis

You’re invited to an Afternoon of Poetry with Ed Davis

Ed Davis will read from his new full-length poetry collection Time of the Light (Main Street Rag Press) at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Wright Memorial Public Library at 1776 Far Hills Avenue in Oakwood, Ohio.

Directions are available at the library's website.

Says Lianne Spidel of the Greenville Poets Group: Ed Davis’s down-to-earth poems often pit the mundane against the power of art. In "Dawn Singer in a College Bathroom," the speaker sits anonymously in a stall, listens to a singer at the sink and finds himself falling short—"convicted by his (the singer’s) sweet testimony of being a prose-droning,/poetryless Standard English hack." The song bounces off porcelain walls, sung by a kid "boogying to music leached up from the gut by the soul’s thirsty roots." This poem, at the heart of Davis’s collection, tells us what he wants his work to do for us—and what his work expects from him.”

Immediately after the reading, Davis will sign copies of the new collection as well as his other books. The event is free and open to the public.
